Major players: US vs Germany

Generals: Montgomery- US, Rommel- Ger.

Strategy: Montgomery moved his troops toward El Alamein, where Rommel's troops were staying and running low on fuel and other supplies. So Rommel took to the offensive and attacked at night, while Montgomery was asleep. it is said that when the troops woke him and said that Rommel was attacking he only said "Excellent, excellent." and went back to sleep becasue he knew that Rommel's troops could not stand a long battle. the US troops had laid antitank mines the day before so many of Rommel's tanks were destroyed or stuck in tank traps and hit with artillary. Montgomery had also set up "Operation Betlam" to make Rommel think that Montgomery had most of his troops in the south, while Montgomery carefully hid his troops in the north. The US lauched a counter attack and wiped Rommel and his troops off the map.

Outcome: The US won.

Purpose: Montgomery attacked Rommel inorder to wipe out the Nazi presense in Africa

Importance: It was considered a major victory for the Allies because it defeated bulk of the Nazi troops in Africa. Allowing the Allies to send troops to help the Russians.
